Day Five: Skype in the Classroom

On our fifth day of class, we got to present our Proloquo2Go communication boards.   Unfortunately, I did not get to view my classmate’s presentations because I was in the midst of parent teacher interviews, but I did get to Skype into the class to do my presentation with my partner Darcie.

Doing my presentation through Skype really got me thinking about what a powerful tool Skype can be in the classroom and led me to discover the website “Skype in the classroom” (www.education.skype.com)

Skype in the classroom is a free and easy way for teachers to open up their classrooms, meet new people, talk to experts, share ideas, and create amazing learning experiences with teachers from around the world.

Here are some wonderful ways that teachers have been using Skype in the classroom
1.  Meeting other classrooms around the world
2.  Conducting interviews with peers and experts
3.  Touring museums
4.  Inviting guest lecturers into the classroom
5.  Participating in story time with famous authors

  1. I just heard recently of a family that needed speech lessons but the teacher they requested lived a distance away and they couldn't afford the gas it would require. As a solution, they began to use Skype and have been successfully receiving lessons.
